Kersley Fights To Save It’s School

Those are a few examples of the signs that protesters trying to keep Kersley elementary school from closing had outside the school district office in Quesnel this (Monday) morning.

Roland Sawatsky, a Spokesperson for the Friends of Kerlsey Elementary Committee, says they’re frustrated that they’re not getting some of the information that they’ve requested.

He says they’re still waiting for answers to their freedom of information requests which they would liked to have prior to a meeting scheduled for tomorrow (Feb 23) night.

Sawatsky says that information may lead to more questions.

He says they have met with Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes and Cariboo Regional District Director Ted Armstrong and they generated some good ideas and he says they want to do the same with the School District to find a solution to keep the school open.

Sawatsky says they dispute some of the numbers to operate their school and he says they feel any cuts should be made to administration.

Sawatsky says they are top heavy as there are the same number of staff now with around 3 thousand students as there were when there were more than 5 thousand.

He says in one case they even took one position, divided it into two, and paid them both a high end salary.

Something going on in the Cariboo you think people should know about?
