The second full weekend of Operation Red Nose in Williams Lake was busier than the first.
Coordinator Deborah Pickering said the number of safe rides homes do increases the further it gets into the Holiday Season.
“We did 19 rides this past Friday night (December 6) and 37 on Saturday night (December 7). A year ago this past Friday we gave 14 rides and 43 on the second Saturday in 2023.” Pickering said, “It was pretty much on par, a little bit more on the Friday and a few less rides on the Saturday which ends up working out to be just about the same.”
Pickering said as we get closer to Christmas people start planning more house parties so that adds to the uptick in the number rides we provide.
“And I do have people if they have a party planned they’ll give me a call giving me a heads up asking me if we’ll come to this location. We don’t want to go too far out of town but we will come to house parties and they’ll them out as much as we have teams for. As the teams become available, when they’re finished a ride we’ll send them to that location.”
Pickering reminds people planning to use Operation Red Nose to call at least 30 minutes before they think they would be ready to go home.
“Then we put your ride in the order that they’re received so when the time comes that says you’re ready to come home, we’ll give you a call and ask if you’re ready to go that we have a team coming.”
Operation Red Nose will be out this and next weekend December 13, 14, 20 and 21, to give you and your vehicle a safe ride home.
“Our number one goal is to make sure people get home safely during the Holiday Season.” Pickering said, “No matter how many rides we give we’re happy about that knowing how many people made it home safely and that’s what we hope to see more of.”
