A False Alarm Bylaw is in the works for the City of Quesnel.
First reading was given to a potentially new bylaw at the last meeting.
RCMP Staff Sergeant Richard Weseen provided a report to the Policy & Bylaw Committee back in June requesting that something be done to address an increase in false alarm reports.
Staff reviewed bylaws in Williams Lake, Prince George and Kamloops and prepared a document based on the latter.
Under the proposed bylaw, the fine structure would be free for the first false alarm, 100 dollars for the second false alarm, and then 300 for each one after that.
Council also directed staff to proceed with sending notice of the proposed bylaw to the Business Improvement Associations and the Chamber of Commerce for comment prior to final readings.
