Quesnel RCMP arrest robbery suspect following altercation with employee

A 19-year old man is in custody following a robbery in Quesnel.

RCMP Sergeant Clay Kronebusch says they were called to a hardware store in the 100 block of Reid Street on Sunday afternoon at around 4-30.

He says a man attempted to steal several items and staff attempted to intervene.

“The man presented a hatchet and struck the staff member in the head. A physical struggle ensued between the suspect and staff at the store. The suspect pulled a large knife and stabbed the employee in the arm and then fled the store.”

Kronebusch says the employee suffered a laceration to his head and arm.

A suspect, identified as David Wesley, was arrested the following day and remains in custody pending a court date.

Kronebusch says “police would like to remind people to use caution when confronting individuals involved in criminal activity, as they can be unpredictable and often carry weapons.”
