Taseko Files Civil Claim against Federal Government

Taseko Mines is seeking damages from the Government of Canada for rejecting a proposed open-pit gold and copper mine 125km southwest of Williams Lake.

The company announced today they have filed a civil claim in BC Supreme Court.

Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Brian Battison says the February 25, 2014 decision continues to cause damages, expenses, and loss.

“Their decision lives on and the implications of their decision live on, so the damage continues to live on,” he says. “They made some serious mistakes during the panel process.”

Battison says governments both present and past need to be held accountable for their decisions.

Taseko according to the claim has spent in excess of $130 million to date developing the project, New Prosperity, a $1.5 billion dollar open-pit gold and copper mine.

550 direct jobs and 1280 indirect jobs would have been provided by the Mine and generate average annual increases of $459 million to the provincial gross domestic project.
