Prescribed Burn Scheduled in Wildhorse Creek

South Cariboo residents may see some smoke within the next month.

A prescribed burn in the Wildhorse Creek Region will take place up until November 15.

The burn will be located within the 100 Mile House Regional District, approximately 60 kilometres west of Highway 97, and 10 kilometres north of the Big Bar Ferry crossing.

“The prescribed burn will conducted over 344 hectares of open range near Wildhorse Creek.” says Jeremy Corrigan, Fire Information Officer with Ministry of Forests Wildfire Services. “The prescribed burn will continue periodically until November 15, depending on weather and smoke dissipation.”

Prescribed burns are often conducted to help clean up the areas by reducing the number of encroaching trees and shrubs in the region. They also allow more chances for native forage grasses to grow.

Corrigan cautions drivers that smoke will be visible in Clinton and surround areas, and for motorists travelling southbound along Highway 97; but traffic delays are not to be expected.
