Wildfire East Of Wells Has Grown & Once Again Listed Out Of Control

The status and size of the wildfire burning 30 kilometres east of Wells that was discovered back on July 18th has changed.

Fire Information Officer Jeromy Corrigan says that was due to the recent hot, dry weather mixed in with windy conditions.

That wildfire began to flare up late last week on Friday (September 6) and as a result we have seen the status change from being under control to now being out of control. The wildfire has grown an estimated 40 hectares in size.”

Corrigan noted that ground crews are currently are working on that wildfire and will be for the foreseeable future and they are receiving support right now from heavy equipment and aviation resources.

At this time there are no threats to any structures in the area or communities. Smoke will be visible from parts of the rural 3100 Road and Ghost Lake Road Recreation site.”
