100 Mile House RCMP have released more details on an accident that knocked out power to more than 3,000 people.
Police were called to a single vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Exeter Truck Route last Friday (August 23rd).
Sergeant Brian Lamb says the vehicle struck a utility pole which caused the pole and wires to come down onto the highway.
“The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was already out of the vehicle upon arrival and not injured. Police spoke with the driver and evidence of alcohol consumption was detected.” says Lamb.
“A breath demand was issued and a breath test was conducted using an approved screening device. The result was a warn.”
Lamb added the driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for seven days, and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
The road was closed in both directions, and was later opened to single lane alternating traffic while BC Hydro completed the pole and power restoration.
