Denisiqi Service Society in Williams Lake is celebrating a milestone today.
For the past 20-years they have been offering community based, culturally appropriate child and family care to several Tsilhqot’in and Ulkatcho’ten communities.
Executive Director Christa Smith said they’re extremely honoured to be able to reflect on their past as well as look towards the future.
“We’re hoping to expand into a mobile Service Delivery for an Indigenous led child and youth with special needs service which would be our mobile services out to communities bringing our therapies and the developmental services to children in their community.”
With it being Denisiqi’s 20th Anniversary we asked Smith if she has noticed an increase in the need for their services over those years.
“I’ve been here about five and a half years and when I started we had 21 staff we’re now sitting at 65. That really does just reflect those expansion to programs and services that we offer to outreach to those one to one youth services and expanding on our programs.”
The Denisiqi Service Society offers a variety of services:
Aboriginal Early Childhood Development Programs
Family Care and Family Support Workers Programs
Aboriginal Child and Youth Mental Health Programs
Youth Services and more.
The Denisiqi Service Society will be holding a 20th Anniversary event today from 11 til 3 at the Tsilhqot’in National Government South Lakeside office and everyone is welcome to attend.
