CRD confirms some structure losses due to wildfire in the Barkerville area

The Cariboo Regional District has confirmed that there has been some structural losses in the Barkerville evacuation order area from the Antler Creek wildfire.

They are not in the town of Barkerville itself.

Gerald Pinchbeck, the CRD’s Emergency Operations Centre Information Officer, says they had rapid damage assessment teams go into the area.

” We have received reports of some structural losses and we are in the process of contacting property owners We have some re-entry work to do before we can look at rescinding the orders, so as of 12 o’clock today those Evacuation Orders will still be in place.”

An Evacuation Order was issued last Sunday for residents of Barkerville and the Bowron area.

Pinchbeck says the official source of information for residents is the CRD EOC Facebook page, and people can also sign up for their Voyent Alert System.
