Mother Nature took a bite out of this year’s attendance at the Quesnel Rodeo

The President of the Quesnel Rodeo Club says attendance was pretty good to start for the 57th annual Quesnel Rodeo during Billy Barker Days.

However, Ray Jasper says the 38 degrees on Sunday likely kept some people away.

“The first night Friday night was pretty much a full house, I think we had close to 2,000 people go through the gate. The beer garden was jammed pack so that was phenomenal. Then you know Saturday’s attendance was really good too. Sunday the heat got us, it was probably the hottest day, it was kid of humid and the attendance was probably I would guess 40 percent of normal by looking at things. That hurt us a bit. The folks that didn’t make it on Sunday missed a pretty good show, but I don’t blame them it was darn hot.”

Jasper says they they ended up at around the 4,000 mark, which is down about 15 hundred from last year.

He says they were happy with the rodeo itself.

“We thought the production was good. Big screen guys did a great job again this year. The folks that entered the rodeo, it was overwhelming, we had two big slacks and three performances.”

There were around 540 entries in this year’s event.

Jasper says there were a few minor glitches but not ones that people likely noticed.
