Water Advisory issued for the Lac La Hache water system

The Cariboo Regional District has issued a Water Quality Advisory for the Lac La Hache water system.

Due to firefighting activities, the reservoir has dropped to 10 percent twice in 24 hours, prompting a need for sampling to ensure no transient backflow events made its way into the system.

With water reaching a low percentage twice, Manager of Utilities, Kelly McDonald says they’re not looking at having a limit on water use.

“Right now we’re not at that point, but we urge all residents using Regional District water systems to follow the restrictions listed on the CRD site, due to the current drought.” says McDonald.

“This ensures ample water for future fires and firefighting crews.”

As a precautionary measure, the CRD asks residents to use purchased bottled water, or boiled water for consumption, cleaning and preparing food.

When choosing to boil water, it must come to a rolling boil for at least one minute, then cooled to an appropriate temperature before use.

Once satisfactory results are shown from the required sampling, customers will be notified that the advisory has been lifted.

McDonald says results could take up to two weeks.

More information about the advisory can be found on the Cariboo Regional District’s website here.
