Staff Bear Sprayed Following Attempted Theft By Father and Son

The owner of Canadian Tire, along with an employee, were both bear sprayed after attempting to stop a theft Monday morning.

Williams Lake RCMP staff Sergeant Del Byron says a 31 year old male entered the store and stole a winch while his 58 year old father waited outside in a get away vehicle in the parking lot at 10:54 am.

Staff attempted to stop the suspect and ended up outside of the store where they were bear sprayed.

The father and son duo were both arrested by RCMP.

Previous to the incident, RCMP  arrested 11 people at 6:10 am after executing a search warrant on the 1100 block of Mackenzie Avenue North.

Byron says RCMP were alerted to a suspicious incident on the 600 Block of Pigeon Avenue where someone was trying doorknobs and footprints from a car where spotted.

RCMP were able to track the footprints from the recently fallen snow which led to the residence on Mackenzie Avenue.

Numerous stolen items including a John Deere wagon with 3 bags of ice and a shovel were recovered

One of the eleven individuals was charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, theft under $5,000 and trespassing.
