The heat was on throughout the Cariboo on Sunday and it turns out it was record heat in both Quesnel and Williams Lake.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Armel Castellan says it got up to 38.1 degrees in Quesnel which broke a more than 100-year old record.
“38.1 degrees which easily beat out 1904, 36.1. In fact, when we dig back in the archives it’s quite interesting to see that, with the 2021 late June heat dome aside which brought 41.7 degrees in Quesnel area on the 29th of June, you’ve got to go way back to 1941 to see the 40.6, and I’m also seeing in 2021 a 39.9, but the 38.1 yesterday is the 7th warmest daytime high in any day of the year for Quesnel.”
The 37.2 from back on July 12th was the 12th warmest.
For Williams Lake, Castellan says it hit 35.3 degrees on Sunday, breaking the old mark for July 21st of 33.6 degrees from 2006.
Castellan says we are now into a downward trend in terms of temperatures.
“The temperature is going to fall down tomorrow in particular. Tuesday we could see temperatures up into the early 20s there, 21, 22 degrees and then dropping further as we get a little more coordinated rain on Wednesday night into Thursday. Then our temperatures, with the clouds and everything, could only get up into the high teens.”
Castellan says the normal high for this time of year is 24.
