This weekend will see the heat wave reach its peak, with record high temperatures expected to be set.
Yesterday didn’t see any records, with Quesnel’s record being 37.8 degrees and only reaching 31, 100 Mile House reached 29.8, with the record at 34, and Williams Lake’s record was 32.6, only getting to 31.
Meteorologist, Philippe-Alain Bergeron says temperatures will keep climbing over the weekend.
“For Quesnel, we are forecasting 35 for today, and tomorrow we’re expecting a high of 37.” says Bergeron.
“Today would be close to tying the record, which is 35.6 in 1905, and tomorrow if we do get to 37, which is likely, that would be the daily record which is 36.1 back in 1938.”
Bergeron says Williams Lake could reach 33 degrees today, with the record being 33.6 in 1988, and tomorrow could reach 34 degrees, with the record also being 33.6 in 2006.
100 Mile House is forecasted for 34 today, 37 tomorrow, with today’s record at 35 set in 1979, and tomorrow’s record at 34.5 back in 1914.
During the weekend, he says it’s best to be in a shaded area or a cooling centre, and to stay hydrated.
Temperatures are forecast to return to seasonal, and potentially lower, by middle of next week.
