The Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department responded to a grassland fire last (Thursday) night.
Fire Chief Ron Richert says they were called out just before 10 o’clock.

“Fire fighters responded to a wild land fire just off of Baker Drive. Upon arrival, crews seen a small wild land fire, approximately 20 by 20, in the wooded area between Baker Drive and Baker Creek.”
Richert says they were able to contain it but it definitely had the potential to get away.
“It definitely had the potential to spread. Luckily some residents in Aveline Place area called it in. Crews were able to gain access through some trails and extinguish the fire.”
Richert says they were on scene for about 45 minutes.
He says they believe that it could have been a camp fire that got away, but they are still investigating at this time.
Richert would like to remind the public that all campfires are banned right now.
