Williams Lake RCMP make two morning arrests for dangerous driving

Dangerous driving led to multiple arrests by Williams Lake RCMP early this morning.

At 4:31am, police had received a report of a late 90’s burgundy Chevrolet pick-up driving at a high rate of speed on Western Avenue, where they later found the vehicle on Mackenzie Avenue, travelling at speeds over 100 kilometres an hour.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson says crews couldn’t pursue, due to the potential high risk to public safety.

“The vehicle nearly collided with pedestrians, as well as other vehicles that were out and about at that time.” says Saunderson.

“The vehicle was later reported to be on fire on Moon Avenue, and two people had fled on foot from that scene.”

Police later located and arrested two adult men, both known to police, within a short distance of the fire.

Saunderson says this driving behaviour is very dangerous, put many people’s lives in harms way, and will not be tolerated by the RCMP.

Both men remain in custody as the investigation is ongoing, with RCMP asking any witnesses or those who have video evidence of the driver and vehicle to call Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211.
