The Heat Is On Until At Least Monday In The Cariboo

Environment Canada’s Heat Warning will remain in effect for the Cariboo for the next several days.

Meteorologist Ken Dosanjh said a ridge of high pressure sitting over the province continues to linger bringing in a Southerly flow giving above normal temperatures.

“We’re looking at temperatures in 100 Mile House to be in the low to possibly the mid 30’s, really peaking around Saturday and into the weekend. We are noticing normal’s for this time period are around 24 so we’re seeing temperatures 10 to 12 degrees above normal which is the reason for the Heat Warning we have in effect.”

With temperatures that high above average we asked Dosanjh if there was a possibility of any records being broken now through Monday.

“For Williams Lake and 100 Mile House the daily records sit for the next couple of days of around 32 degrees and they were set back in 1979 and looking at our current forecast we see temperatures today (July 17) around 33, Friday 34, Saturday 36, so we’re definitely near if not a couple of degrees above our current daily temperature records. So I would imagine within the next couple of days we’ll see some daily max records broken.”

Dosanjh said they are anticipating Monday to be that last duration of seeing those temperature’s on the 30’s.

“After that there seems to be some good indications that this upper low sitting over the Pacific Ocean waiting to come in will eventually make it’s way into the Interior so we’ll see a bit of a cool down with temperatures closer to normal, around 23 to 25 degrees Tuesday onwards.”
