It has been 150 years since the deaths of six chiefs who lost their lives after the Chilcotin War for sacrificing everything in defense of their lands and their people, and yesterday more 200 individuals came together to remember their lives and talk about the what the future holds for First Nations People across the province.
John Rustad, provincial Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation, says it’s important to understand our past and be able to reconcile as we move forward.
Although Rustad, admits lots of work needs to continue, Premier Christy Clark, who unable to attend, did receive ovation for her historic apology on Thursday.

The commemoration which began outside near the GR Baker Hospital with speeches from Rustad, municipal leaders, and Tsilhqot’in Nation Chiefs, concluded at UNBC’s North Cariboo Campus in hope of building a new trail with everyone standing shoulder to shoulder.
