The historic town of Barkerville remains open, despite being on evacuation alert due to the Cornish Mountain wildfire just north of Wells.
Stewart Cawood, the Manager of Public Programming and Media, says there is no smoke in Barkerville and it is business as usual.
“Yes, everything is up and running. We just actually had a really successful theatre show for the day, we’ve had some really nice people out here, and all the businesses and restaurants are currently running as well.”
Cawood says several back country trails do remain closed however.
They are the Yellowjack, Jubilee, Sugar Creek Loop, Cornish Mountain, Valley Mountain, BGM, Cow Mountain and Proserpine trails.
Cawood says it is to make sure that people can be quickly located and evacuated if need be.
