City of Williams Lake requests internal review at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital

The City of Williams Lake has requested Interior Health Authority to internally review the operations and management at the Cariboo Memorial Hospital.

This comes after City’s Special Council Meeting Tuesday evening, discussing the emergency department’s five overnight closures in six days due to lack of nursing availability.

Mayor Surinderpal Rathor said “Let’s focus on working together to figure out a way to fix this situation. The residents of Williams Lake and the surrounding region deserve reliable and responsive health care.”

Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District Board Chair, Al Richmond noted in Tuesday’s meeting that the District of Clearwater saw positive results from an internal review of the hospital’s operations and management.

Williams Lake Council has also asked Interior Health to keep other affected organizations, including regional and First Nations governments, informed during the process.

More information can be found on the City of Williams Lake’s website here.
