ER closures NOT on the horizon for G.R. Baker Hospital in Quesnel

Northern Health says it doesn’t anticipate any temporary Emergency Room closures at G.R. Baker Hospital in Quesnel.

It says Emergency Department nurse and physician staffing in Quesnel is considered quite stable right now.

Northern Health adds that it is constantly monitoring staffing schedules, weeks and in fact months in advance, working to fill any vacant shifts while also recruiting additional staff on an ongoing basis.

It says recruitment for both RN’s and LPN’s is ongoing across the region, recently enhanced with the support of the Ministry of Health through a $30,000 recruitment incentive for ER nurses who agree to a two-year commitment and are new to a rural and remote community.

Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake has had to temporarily shut down its ER several times this month due to a nursing shortage.
