Overturned truck closes Highway 97 between Quesnel and Prince George

A tire blowout was the cause of a commercial vehicle overturning, shutting down traffic along Highway 97 for several hours yesterday (Sunday).

Prince George RCMP and other first responders attended a motor vehicle incident near Swanson Road, approximately one kilometer north of Hixon at about 11:30am.

According to police, the commercial vehicle was hauling old and recycled propane bottles, eventually spilling its load across three lanes of traffic.

“The incident shut down the highway in both directions for a large portion of the afternoon, as emergency crews cleared the truck from the highway and collected the propane bottles. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident and only the single vehicle was involved,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

The highway was not reopened fully for several hours.
