South Cariboo Garlic Festival is returning with more activities and vendors

Cariboo residents can look forward to an improved South Cariboo Garlic Festival next month.

Last year, Nedeen Boon and Teresa Wager became the new organizers for the event, and saw a successful first run.

Wager says they heard feedback from vendors and attendees, and are making this year bigger.

“We’ve created something called a roughneck zone, so in garlic speak, there’s hardneck garlic and softneck garlic, so that zone is going to cater to more outdoorsy and more of a tough area.” says Wager.

“We’re going to have live chainsaw carving, portable saw mill, and we’re going to have hand forged knives, craft distilleries and breweries.”

The festival will also have 160 vendors and food trucks compared to last year’s 121, which Wager says will probably be one of the biggest draws.

She hopes to see more people attend this year or come close to last year’s record setting number of around 7,000.

The South Cariboo Garlic Festival will go from Saturday, August 24th to Sunday, August 25th, north of the Lac La Hache townsite.
