Temperatures could reach the 30 degree mark in the Cariboo this weekend, prompting a reminder around fires.
The Cariboo Fire Centre is reminding residents that a category 2 and 3 fire prohibition is still in effect across the region.
Fire Information Officer, Ashlene Aktarian says campfires are still allowed to an extent.
“They can not exceed 0.5 metres by 0.5 metres in size, so we just want to encourage people to exercise caution with any campfire with the upcoming weather.” says Aktarian.
“Especially never leave it unattended, always have a water source present, and ensure it’s fully out and cold to the touch before leaving the area.”
While the fire danger rating remains low to moderate in the region, Aktarian says it’s expected to rapidly change with the heat wave and lack of moisture.
She says with forest fuels drying and reduced fuel moisture, there’s an increased risk of service fires starting.
