Interior Health Mental Health and Substance Use team hosts Stampede breakfast

The Williams Lake Mental Health and Substance Use team held their second annual Stampede pancake breakfast.

The group, which is a part of Interior Health, hosts the breakfast to give those using substances and experience mental health challenges a welcomed environment.

Integrated Community Care Coordinator, Nancy Fenner says it allows them to participate in the City’s celebrations.

“This time of year there’s a lot of events going on in Williams Lake, they celebrate the Stampede and stuff and a lot of breakfast.” says Fenner.

“Our clients tend to not be very welcome at a lot of these events and were actually getting asked to leave, so we decided to put on our own and encourage them to come.”

Fenner says this encourages engagement in a comfortable way, and explain what they can and can’t do.

The Mental Health and Substance Use team also had various posters and information pamphlets on display, along with naloxone kits.

The breakfast was held at Boitanio Park, which began at 11:00am, and will continue until 2:00pm.
