Quesnel Mayor Sticks Up For School Trustees

The Mayor of Quesnel is coming to the defense of School Trustees who are considering the closure of three schools.
Bob Simpson says it’s not the School Board that people should be upset with.
He says the funding that they get is fixed by the Provincial Government.
Simpson says Boards can’t tax like Council’s can so if people want to get angry about school closures they need to direct that anger and their desires for neighbourhood schools to the Provincial Government.
He says Trustees are just trying to do what they can with the budget provided to them by the Provincial Government.
As far as what the City can do to help, he says all they can do is offer to help with planning opportunities to look at the implications of the possible closure at Ecole Baker elementary which is the only school on the chopping block within City limits.
Parkland and Kersley are the other two schools being considered for closure.
