Williams Lake City Council is encouraging BC Housing to nearly double the amount of units for Jubilee Place.
The project, located at 845 Carson Drive, is a supportive housing facility with 33 units, however Council had directed staff to review the density zone with the intent to increase the units to 60.
Manager of Economic Development, Beth Veenkamp says the unit increase would significantly change the project’s development.
“We would definitely see a footprint change in the area.” says Veenkamp.
“It’s important to note that that site is already owned by BC Housing, so that’s theirs and it’s theirs to redevelop, and so we are encouraging them as much as possible to get as many units on that site as will fit.”
Veenkamp says that since the site is owned by BC Housing, the City wouldn’t have to put in anything towards the development.
The next steps is to have the project be made a priority for the interior of BC and have future updates.
Veenkamp notes that feasibility work is being done currently by BC Housing, and are invited to give an update to Council in the Fall of this year.
