Campaign addressing increased impaired driving related crashes launched by ICBC and police

ICBC and police are looking to reduce impaired driving on BC Roads over the summer.

Every year during the summer months, impaired driving-related crashes where someone is injured or killed increase by 27 percent in the province.

ICBC said the largest increase comes from Northern BC, which includes the Cariboo, by up to 63 percent, with the next largest by the Southern Interior by up to 53 percent.

Police will be looking for impaired drivers at CounterAttack roadchecks across the province, which began last weekend.

On average 13 people are killed and 155 injured in impaired driving related crashes in North Central BC every year.

ICBC asks that anyone taking part in activities this summer that involve alcohol or other drugs to plan ahead to get home safe such as using a designated driver, taxi, or transit.

More information about the CounterAttack campaign can be found on ICBC’s website here.
