Joint Advisory Committee Voted Unanimously To Display Memorial Jersey In The West Fraser Centre

The Quesnel Minor Hockey Association recently submitted a request to the City and the CRD to have a memorial framed jersey of Lane Wiggins displayed in the West Fraser Centre.

Wiggins, was a U-18 player who died in a tragic motor vehicle accident in November 2023

Director of Community Services Jeff Norburn read that request at the Joint Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday night and when he finished the Committee voted unanimously to support it.

“Staff met with Quesnel Minor Hockey and talked about some possible locations. The President of Minor Hockey I think was going to have some additional conversations likely with the family and maybe with representatives of the team on a couple of options that we had talked about and they were going to get back to us.” Norburn said, “The goal is to have the jersey displayed before Grad ceremonies. It will likely go up next week once we confirm a location with Minor Hockey.”

In Quesnel Minor Hockey’s request it stated that they feel displaying Wiggins jersey in the facility where he spent so many hours and had such an influence, may provide some comfort and closure for his teammates and others whose lives were impacted by him.

In the 1990’s, Quesnel Minor Hockey and Quesnel Millionaires Hockey Club requested that four jerseys of former long-term referees be displayed in Arena 1.

It was granted and were displayed for years and are now framed and displayed in the West Fraser Centre.
