Still No Federal Money For New Arena In Quesnel

The North Cariboo has once again been shut out when it comes to getting Federal money for a new arena in Quesnel.
Mayor Bob Simpson confirms that the Union of BC Municipalities has said that they were not successful in getting any of the 6-million dollars that they were asking for.
Simpson says they are obviously disappointed although he says at this point they don’t have an explanation as to why they were unsuccessful.
He also doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to who is responsible for the failure to get any funding from the previous Conservative Government.
Simpson says that rests squarely on the shoulders of former MP Dick Harris.
He says Harris failed the community by failing to advance this project and Simpson also blames Harris for the failure of the Multi Centre.
He says they still have hope for federal money now that a new Liberal Government has come in with promises of spending money on social infrastructure.
That said, Simpson wants to assure people that they do have enough to complete the project and that the federal money would simply allow them to replenish their reserves and possibly lessen the burden on the taxpayer.
