The District of 100 Mile House has temporarily closed it’s Municipal Campground until potential repairs can take place.
The campground, located between the Fire Hall and the bridge on Horse Lake Road, was closed due to the washrooms being unsanitary and outdated outhouses.
Mayor Maureen Pinkney says the work to get everything up and running has it’s challenges.
“The cost of putting in proper running water, flush toilet, it’s a pretty big bill.”
“We’re anticipating replacing the bridge as soon as we get permits so, that’s kind of been an ongoing thing for the last two years. It could literally happen any day so, it would have to be closed for that.”
Pinkney says the District’s budget is very tight, and with other infrastructure needing work, the outhouses would need to be revisited.
She believes the campground could be closed for two years, but notes there’s no exact timeline.
A closure such as this could also affect the District’s tourism, but Pinkney hopes people will still come and that this won’t deter anybody.
As for the cost to replace the outhouses, Pinkney says it would be around $100,000 minimum.
