Williams Lake is in the early stages of getting a new skatepark in Boitanio Park.
The wheels were put in motion due to the City’s current skatepark being outdated, and reaching the end of it’s life cycle.
Director of Community Services, Stacey Miranda says the community and New Line Skateparks helped push this forward.
“A group of community members got together, invited myself and a couple others to go and talk about what kind of options there are.” says Miranda.
“We engaged New Line, and they are the ones helping us go through the process of designing it, raising funds.”
Miranda added that New Line would also help with looking at different options, and help engage with the community at large to make sure it’s something for everybody.
As of now, the City won’t be a big part in the process, as there’s no budget for a skatepark, and is dependent on Council on how involved they will get.
The City will also be looking at ways to get grants to help make the new skatepark a reality, with the project needing to be shovel ready to get larger grants.
Anyone wanting to provide comments or feedback on the skateboard options are able to complete a survey from the City here.
More information regarding the Skatepark can be found on the City’s website here.
