Local Youth Groups Receive Over $13,000 through Operation Red Nose

Operation Red Nose has delivered yet again by raising funds for local organizations.

Blue Fins Head Coach Chad Webb, was one of four groups to share more than $13,000 yesterday.

“Many times if we can have something that ties into both fundraising and giving back to the community, I think it’s important that we support those sort of avenues that our community supplies.”

Webb says they hope to use the funds to purchase some new equipment for their electronic timing system.

Also sharing funds from the 8th Annual Season of Operation Red Nose is the Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastics, the Williams Lake Skating Club, and the Cariboo Chilcotin Youth Fiddle Society.

The wrap-up event at CJ’s ended with a motion being by the Rotary Club to continue Operation Red Nose for another season, which Williams Lake RCMP Inspector Milo MacDonald called great news.

“I think that there’s a direct connection between this program and literally saving lives,” MacDonald says.

“We had a great holiday season in terms of impaired drivers. We didn’t catch very many, and we were looking pretty hard and I think a big part of it is a result of this program.”

MacDonald says even more importantly was that RCMP did not have to knock on anyone’s door that a loved one was killed.

Operation Red Nose gave out more than 300 rides to 700 people.
