Anahim Lake Community Hall will soon be switching to solar power

Solar panels will soon be installed at the Anahim Lake Community Hall after receiving funds from the Cariboo Regional District.

The Anahim Lake Community Association was given $40,500 from the Community Works Fund to help decrease the carbon footprint of the facility, reducing external electricity needs.

Secretary Treasurer, Amy Hauk says the project would also save costs at the community hall, which would help fund future projects.

“It’s all heated right now with electrical base boards, so the cost can be upwards of $800 to $1,000 per hydro bill, so that’s going to make a huge difference.” says Hauk.

“It should take it down to basically nothing.”

This would be the first community hall switching to solar power, but Hauk says Tatla Lake Community Association is looking into it.

The CRD has $55,000 remaining through it’s Community Hall Energy Efficiency and Water Conservation funding envelope for future upgrades at other community halls.

The Anahim Lake Community Hall is currently upgrading their electrical to handle the panels, with hopes to have them installed by the end of June.
