Community Consultation Meetings On Potential Quesnel School Closures Now Set

The dates have now been set for North Cariboo residents to make their case to save their schools.

A community consultation meeting will take place on Thursday, February 4th regarding the possible closure of Parkland elementary with students relocating to Barlow Creek.

A meeting is also scheduled for Tuesday, February 23rd.

That one is on the possible closure of Kersley elementary with students relocating to Lakeview and the final meeting is on Wednesday, March 2nd regarding the possible closure of Ecole Baker elementary with English students going to Voyageur and French Immersion students relocating to Red Bluff.

All of the meetings will take place at the Chuck Mobley Theatre at Correlieu Secondary School.

Quesnel’s Board of Education unanimously passed a motion at their last meeting to consider the closure of three schools in the district.

That kicked off a 60-day consultation period, as required under the School Act, which is now underway.

Declining enrollment and a lack of Provincial funding are blamed for the possible closures.
