Outside of Victoria and Dease Lake both Quesnel and Williams Lake recorded the most rainfall amounts in BC for the month of May.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Ken Dosanjh said compared to the rest of the province that saw normal or drier conditions these two Cariboo communities were among the top 4 in BC.
“Quesnel and Williams Lake were the primary points for precipitation. Preliminary estimates they were above 100 percent for precipitation totals. For Quesnel looking about 65 millimetres for May which is 153.7 percent of normal. Williams lake received more precipitation, 83.6 millimetres and the average is 39 millimetres so we’re looking at over 200 percent normal for this time of year for the month of May. It looks like Williams Lake will have likely seen it’s fourth wettest May since record have began back in 1960,” Dosanjh said.
Temperature wise May was a degree below normal for Quesnel and Williams Lake.
With a high pressure ridge expected to settle in over the Region towards the weekend, Dosanjh noted that Friday and Saturday temperatures could be in the mid-20’s to 28 range making it 6 degrees above normal which could possibly set a record.
