Quesnel School District holds groundbreaking ceremony for new school

A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Quesnel this (Wednesday) afternoon for the new Carson Elementary School.

School Board members were joined by School District staff and members of the Lhtako Dene Band Council and Quesnel City Council for the celebration at 120 Nadeau Street.

The current Carson students were also in the audience.

A smudging ceremony was held prior to the ceremony and the land was also blessed by Lhtako Dene members.

Construction on the new 61.2 million dollar school is expected to begin in the next couple of weeks with a completion date in the fall of 2025.

It will replace the old school that was impacted by a landslide.

Capacity will go from 195 seats up to 390.
