Boil water notice downgraded to water quality advisory for Russet Bluff

Russet Bluff’s boil water notice has been downgraded to a Water Quality Advisory.

Interior Health allowed the Cariboo Regional District to downgrade the notice for Williams Lake’s south east neighbourhood, due to the use of untreated water from the lower water well, designated as groundwater source at risk of pathogens.

The CRD said residents won’t need to boil water for consumption or seek an alternate water supply, but recommends precautions be taken for seniors, children and those with health concerns.

The Water Quality Advisory related to manganese concentrations in water sourced from the lower well also remains in effect.

Interior Health said boiling water from the system may increase its manganese concentration, and advises residents to have an alternative water source for infants and young children for consumption or food preparation.

The advisories will continue until the water source is switched to the upper well in the fall, and the public will be notified.

They said frequent water sampling will continue to take place as work with Interior Health continues.

More information about the Water Quality Advisory can be found on the CRD’s website here.
