Public approval sought for financial aid to West Chilcotin community halls

The Cariboo Regional District is looking to introduce a new financial assistance program for community halls in Electoral Area J.

In order to do so, they’re needing approval from residents of the West Chilcotin to support the Anahim Lake, Nimpo Lake, and the Tatla Lake community halls.

Director of Electoral Area J, Tolin Pare says up to this point, there’s been some troubles supporting the halls.

“Just doing bake sales and doing whatever they can to try to cover costs to make ends meet, but it’s getting to be more and more of a struggle as we all know with volunteers and trying to get volunteers with everyone’s busy lives.” says Pare.

“It’s getting harder and harder to make ends meet with these little communities.”

Pare added that each hall would get $10,000 to help pay for utilities, insurance, and specified improvement projects.

He says this would be added as a parcel tax on residents properties of $30 per parcel levied on up to two properties per unique owner, and it would be yearly.

Residents of Electoral Area J have until July 2nd, 2024, at 4:00pm to submit their response form to the Regional District’s Manager of Corporate Administration.

The form and further information can be found on the CRD’s website here.
