“Be Safe This Holiday Weekend” A Reminder From Cariboo Search & Rescue Teams

Search and Rescue Teams throughout the Cariboo want you to have a safe Long Weekend in the Back Country.

Central Cariboo Search and Rescue Member Debra Bortolussi said before you go plan to let someone know where you are going, what you are doing,  when to expect you back, and what you are wearing among other things.

Details on your activities such as if you are quadding, hiking, how experienced you are because that will change if we do need to come help you where we might search or how far we miugh think you have gone.”

Bortolussi noted it’s also important to bring along food and water as well as the right clothing as you don’t know how long you’ll be out there for if something should happen and that May Long Weekend weather can change very quickly.

Last May Long weekend was pretty quite for her team Bortolussi said as they were were only called out once.

Just last weekend, within minutes of each other, not even within 5 minutes of each other, we had our Land Search and Rescue Team tasked out to help an injured mountain biker. The we had we had our Auto Extrication Team called out to a motor vehicle incident, so we’re already looking to be fairly busy this season already.”

Bortolussi added if your weekend plans include travelling around the province never drive impaired, under the influence or if you feel fatigued.
