Thompson Rivers University Regional Centre has relocated and invites the public to it’s grand opening.
Dean of Trades and Technology Baldev Pooni said they had a smaller place located on the Industrial Site.
“So we’re very excited to be moving the campus to a more prominent site with greater visibility to the residents of 100 Mile House to be able to their education there. This facility has been renovated to include modern technology to be able to enhance the learning for the students.”
Pooni said the intention of a Regional Campus like this is to allow people to do as much of the education and starting their education closer to home so they’re not having to move to a larger centre.
“Students will be able to receive their education and training in areas such as academic preparation, trades, health care, and in other fields, locally. These opportunities may directly fulfill personal goals or meet local needs, and they will also serve as starting points toward further study in diplomas and degrees in Kamloops and, where applicable, Williams Lake.”
Pooni noted current technologies will connect the 100 Mile House Campus to Kamloops and Williams Lake for additional support and opportunity.
“We invite the public to come to our grand opening this afternoon (May 15) at 1 pm to have a look at what our facilities entail, how they will operate, and to introduce them to our staff within Thompson Rivers University.”
The University said this relocation is in line with TRU’s continuous commitment to providing accessible and high quality education in the BC region.
“Taking 40 students at a time and possibly up to 200, maybe a bit more, in a year, and really offering everything from short courses that people need in terms of basic credentials up to certificate programs that recognizes credentials which will allow people to go on to diplomas and degrees at the larger campus’s. I think we will create a good footprint in terms of the education and a whole variety of courses they can choose from,” Pooni added.
