Russet Bluff Water System issued Water Quality Advisory and Boil Water Notice

Residents in the Russet Bluff Water System area are being cautioned on the water quality change, as it switches to the lower well.

The Cariboo Regional District issued a Boil Water Notice as the lower well is designated as a groundwater source at risk of pathogens.

No water samples received have shown presence of any coliform bacteria, there is still a risk until another public notice is issued upon the request of a Drinking Water Officer.

A Water Quality Advisory is due to the lower well having a higher total concentration of manganese, exceeding Health Canada’s standards posing a risk to infants and young children.

During the notice, residents are asked to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before consuming, cooking, brushing teeth, washing food, dishes and animals, and use hand sanitizer after hand washing.

Interior Health has advised that boiling water from the system may increase its manganese concentration, and is advising residents to secure an alternative water source to provide infants and young children.

More information about the notice and advisory can be found on the CRD’s website here.
