FireSmart film screening taking place at Williams Lake’s Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex

BC Wildfire Service, Williams Lake Fire Department, the City of Williams Lake and CRD will be hosting a FireSmart film screening.

The film, The Test, is a documentary about the 18 years the community of Logan Lake spent becoming the first Certified FireSmart Community in Canada.

Cariboo Fire Centre Wildfire Assistant, Colby Griffiths talks about what people can expect from the film.

“The documentary itself just talks about how the community was essentially put to the test when the Tremont Creek Wildfire interacted with the community in 2021.”

“The overall movie does have a FireSmart message as well as preparedness, but it also talks more about what people can do, and how things all line up when it comes to emergency management.”

Along with the film screening, there will be a panel discussion going over wildfire preparedness

There will be representatives from organizations such as BC Wildfire Service, Williams Lake Fire Department and CRD.

The film will be shown at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex’s Gibraltar Room on Thursday, May 16th, with doors opening at 6:30pm.

Tickets for the screening are free, and can be found on Eventbrite here.
