BC Wildfire Service along with Williams Lake First Nation will be having a prescribed burn at Fox Mountain.
The burn will cover 2-hectares, and will help in preparations for future maintenance treatments in the area.
Communications Assistant, Jeromy Corrigan says this burn will be similar to a burn done over a decade ago.
“Preparation will take place on either side of Fox Mountain Road before Mason Road.” says Corrigan.
“Preparation for the prescribed burn will reduce wildfire risk and prepare the area for future ignitions. This project will maintain a previous fuel management treatment that was completed in 2010.”
Corrigan added that ignitions could start as early as April 19th, continuing until May 3rd.
Smoke and flames will be visible in Williams Lake and the surrounding areas, with burns only proceeding if conditions are suitable and allow for quick smoke dissipation.
During the burning, traffic control will be on-site to ensure safety of the public and firefighters, and short delays may occur.
