Prescribed Burn Near Nemiah Valley Lodge Could Begin April 17th

BC Wildfire Service in collaboration with Xeni Gwet’in First Nation will be conducting a prescribed burn approximately ten hectares in size near the Nemiah Valley Lodge.

Fire Information Officer at the Cariboo Fire Centre, Madison Dahl, said burning may begin as early as today (April 17) and may continue periodically until April 20th.

The objective of this burn is to restore open grasslands by reducing encroachment from coniferous trees and reducing wildfire hazard by removing accumulations of combustible materials.”

Dahl noted that smoke from this fire may be visible from Nemiah Valley, 900 Road and surrounding areas.

Burning will be dependent on weather, site and venting conditions, ignitions will proceed only if conditions are suitable for quick smoke dissipation.
