Owners of new Quesnel junior hockey team to take over alcohol sales at West Fraser Centre

The North Cariboo Joint Advisory Committee is recommending that Parallel Sports Group take over the responsibility of providing liquor at the West Fraser Centre.

Quesnel City Council, the manager of the North Cariboo Recreation and Parks Service and current holder of the liquor license at the facility, will ultimately make the decision.

Jeff Norburn, the Director of Community Services, said “the proposed agreement is for a five-year term with an expiry date that coincides with the term of the Junior Hockey Team agreement.  Under the terms of the proposed agreement, PSG (Parallel Sports Group) will manage and operate all liquor sale, all year long under the city’s license.

He added that “PSG will retain all revenue and will be responsible for all expenses related to liquor sales including the purchase of inventory, providing security at events, and scheduling qualified staff or volunteers to provide service.”

PSG will provide a monthly summary of all events where liquor is sold.

That will also include a breakdown of alcohol products sold at each event and the revenue generated.

Councillor Martin Runge asked if the city would still be liable if something were to happen.

The short answer from Norburn was that ultimately the responsibility is with the city because Parallel Sports Group is still their operator.
