Prescribed Burn Planned In The Quesnel Fire Centre

BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a prescribed burn in the area of Neewa Creek in the Quesnel Fire Zone.

The burn is approximately 24.25 hecatres in size and located north and west of Comstock and Batnuni Lakes in the Comstock Range Unit.

BC Wildfire Service said the goal is to reduce coniferous and deciduous tree encroachment that results in a loss of forage and habitat for wildlife and livestock.

Burning may begin as early as tomorrow, (April 3) continuing until April 15 and will be dependent on weather, site and venting conditions to allow for quick smoke dissipation.

Prescribed fire restores, promotes the growth of natural grasslands and First Nations traditional plants.
