Voters in the Barlow Creek fire protection area are being asked to allow the CRD to borrow $650,000 for a new fire tender.
The Barlow Creek Volunteer Fire Department is needing to replace their current fire tender, and is part of the legal requirement to replace it once every 20 years.
Manager of Communications, Gerald Pinchbeck says the vote would help lower the tax implication.
“We’re proposing to borrow these funds over ten-years, because it lowers the taxation impact versus five-year borrowing, which we wouldn’t have t go to referendum for.” says Pinchbeck.
“The tax implication for that ten-year borrowing would be an increase of $37.16 per $100,000 of the net tax assessment value of buildings only.”
If majority of the votes are in favour of no, it would go to a five-year borrowing term, which would increase the tax implication to 91.1 percent or $65.30 per $100,000.
There will be multiple was to cast a vote such as through a mail ballot package, which will be available April 2nd to the 25th, or have three opportunities to vote in-person.
The first will be on April 17th at the CRD Quesnel Library room, the others are April 22nd and 27th at the Barlow Creek Community Hall, with all being open from 8:00am to 8:00pm.
More information and how to vote on the referendum can be found on the CRD’s website here.
