Avalanche Warning Extended As Dangerous Conditions Persist

The Special Public Avalanche Warning has been extended.

It was first issued back on February 29th by Avalanche Canada and will be in effect until end of day this Thursday for much of BC including the Cariboo Mountains.

Avalanche Canada says over the weekend there were numerous natural, accidental, and remote triggered avalanches reported including a fatal accident near Revelstoke.

Recent storms have deposited a significant amount of new snow that sits on prominent weak layers and in some areas there is more than one weak layer.

As the active storm period passes, Avalanche Canada says widespread natural avalanche activity will slow however human-triggered avalanches remain likely.

Recreationists should not underestimate the instability of these weak layers or their potential to produce large avalanches.

The full avalanche map can be found on Avalanche Canada’s website here.
